Safety around Snakes

Deaths from snakebites are not very common in Australia, though everyone should be taught the dangers of being around snakes and reptiles.

Try to avoid walking through long grass and always wear safe clothing / protective footwear  (feet and ankles are often the first place a snake will bite).

Do not handle or provoke a snake, because this is when many people are bitten.

Remain as still as possible until the snake moves on.
